Think of it as water filtration for dummies. You don’t even need to keep an eye on the calendar, the electronic sensor lets you know with a flashing arrow when it’s time to change filters. Not to mention this system sure beats the heck out of paying for and lugging home gallon after gallon of water. more info

Brita Dispenser – Wonderful !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Brita Ultramax Dispenser
This is a wonderful product and saves you so much money.
It’s easy to use, you just keep filling it with water and it slowly
goes through the filter providing you with great, filtered water whenever you want it. You can fill up bottles, ice cube trays, I could go on and on and it never costs any more money than the original purchase price.
No more buying and carrying gallon bottles of filtered water.
I have had mine for about a month and it’s paid for itself over and over. You do have to replace the filter but it’s good for gallons!!! before you do.
I couldn’t be more pleased with this item.
Previous version has worked for 10+ years, no mold
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I think some people are distorting reality on this product based on another problem in their refrigerator and blaming it on the Brita. I’ve used the previous generation of this product in all different parts of the USA in various refrigerators, and I’ve never experienced mold. I can’t see why this design is fundamentally going to be different. My guess is people have a mold problem in their house/refrigerator and like any mold, it is seeking the moisture. CLEAN YOUR FRIDGE…
I don’t wash this once a week, more like once a month. The water doesn’t pick up weird tastes or smells, but then again, my refrigerator is clean. I find it convenient to use, not so much to fill, but it still works as intended. The version currently for sale may have a leak problem, I can’t say yes or no, but the one I have has not leaked in all the time I’ve had it other then once when I determined the spigot needed to be tightened.
All in all, if you are tired of filling up pitchers constantly, and find the full pitcher heavy and spill prone when you use it, this product is for you. Also, because you don’t have to tip it, you can fill it with water and get a glass almost immediately even as the rest of the water is still filtering. In a Brita pitcher, you must wait for all the water to filter before you can even have a glass. This feature has come in handy when doing things like filling pet water bowls, fish tanks, etc.
I’d give it five stars, but I find it a bit cumbersome to fill.
Not so great a deal…

Initially, the product worked great. Bought it for our small office because I was tired of drinking pool water. After the first filter was replaced, tho, I started noticing problems. Funny taste to the water within days of replacing the filter; I noticed some of the water wasn’t draining into the tank, but sitting up top fermenting (I guess). I started wiping it out with a paper towel soaked in vinegar. I guess if I did this every day, it wouldn’t be a problem, but what a pain! Even propping it up doesn’t seem to help. It has to be the design that is causing the problem. We live in a dry climate (NM) and the water was being used up regularly so mold shouldn’t have been an issue.
My PUR pitcher doesn’t have that problem. I’m probably going to pitch this one and buy a PUR pitcher for the office. Sad, considering the cost.
Much better than the pitcher!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This item is far superior than the pitcher – you can fill it about four times to get as much water in the container and then you are good to go! No need to have space in the door, just space on the shelf. Love it!
Excellent product

Many of the negative reviews that claim mold problems are actually authored by the same person. After viewing some of his/her reviews of other prodcuts, I noticed another “mold” review for an unrelated product. I think it’s safe to say that the reviewer has issues with mold, and that it’s not a result of the brita filter.
We’ve been using this product for 8+ years with no problems whatsoever. Only drawback (other than price – they should give these away for the amount of $$ you’ll spend for filters) is that it’s heavy when full and awkward to fill.
I just purchased a second unit today to use in our weekend house. Definitely would recommend if you like brita products and are tired of refilling the pitcher constantly.
Love it!!!!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I was sick and tired of refiling the smaller pitchers so I got this. I fill it once a week opposed to every time i get a drink!
This has been working superbly for me over the past 4 months.
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I’ve been happily using this produt for the past 4+ months. It is fantastic! This is the most hydrated I have ever been. Seriously.
Came to this page today to see what the capacity was and skimmed the other reviews for the first time! I hadn’t even thought of the mold concern and that makes sense.
I selected this one because I got tired of refilling the smaller pitchers all the time and wanted something that would provide a lot of water.
My current water goal is to drink a quart for every 50lbs rounding up. I’m 165 lbs so am trying to drink a gallon a day! Needless to say, I am not at this level BUT I’m still drinking enough water that I’m refilling this 1-2 times a week. Perhaps having all this through-flow of water is keeping my mold situation down?
Running water vs. stagnant water (same idea for the body! keep that water flowing!)
I don’t keep this in the refrigerator!!! You would think that the warm temperature of my bedroom would increase the appearance of mold but nope, no problem (conversely, perhaps mold already in others’ refrigerators is getting into their Britas!)
Anyway, this Brita has changed my life… the water tastes great — this Chicago suburban tap water was O.K. but in tea/coffee there was a funky taste now eliminated by the Brita. You can fill up the main reservoir and then fill the top portion too so that water will drip down into the main unit as you draw from it and make room.
This unit isn’t the digital readout kind, not that that’s important to me. I am the only one in my family who uses this so I figure one filter will go a lot longer. Anyway, the last digital readout thing I had was just a 2 month timer, not a fancy measurer of filter quality. So this 2 month sticker is just fine.
When you get down to the last dregs of water, you do have to tip the Brita to get it out. But that’s only if I’m feeling too lazy to get up and refill the thing. It’s not a big deal for me since it’s not stuck in a fridge (although that worked perfectly when I originally had it in the fridge).
But although I haven’t had a visible problem with mold, I will be sure to clean this unit periodically as that is sound/sage advice. Probably for the pitchers as well!
But you would think that of anything sitting around for days or weeks (or months?), water is probably going to take on the least garbage. No, this may not be as airtight as other containers (I’m assuming) and, like I said, perhaps I am drinking it quickly enough that the water does not stagnate. I really have no idea how long water is supposed to last in such a scenario…and our starting-waters probably differ significantly.
Nevertheless, I feel ever-grateful to this unit and will continue to use it until it is no more or until I can buy a fancier one.
thanks!

We bought one of these a few months back. It immediately started leaking from the dispenser. We thought maybe it was a fluke, so we took a chance and simply traded it for a new one. This new one lasted 3 days, THEN started leaking from the dispenser. Looking at the nozzle, there is no washer on the outside, only the inside. So I unscrewed the nozzle, took a washer off a small mag light that I had, and put that on the outside. Hasn’t leaked since. All they needed to do was spend half a penny for a washer on the outside and I’d have given it 5 stars
DANGEROUS FILTER – Green Algae like buildup every 10 days

This BRITA model is potentially DANGEROUS TO HEALTH. Green Algae like substance builds up every 10 days or so despite thorough cleaning.
Great product!

I live in a rural area and use well water. The Brita dispenser works great to filter impurities from the water. Easy to fill and use. I process about a gallon a day.
We love our brita ultramax dispenser!

We love this Brita! We had the smaller pitcher before but are much happier with this one! It fits well in our fridge, though we have a smaller fridge. We love that we don’t have to constantly refill it… great product!
Poor spigot design = leaking & inaccessible water.
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
This product is markedly inferior to its main competitor, the Pur 2-Stage Dispenser. Specifically, I found two main flaws:
1. The spigot draws water from at least an inch and a half up from the base of the dispenser. As a result, quite a lot of water is left inaccessible for drinking, even after tipping over the dispenser.
2. Even more infuriatingly, the spigot’s connection to the main housing is so poorly designed that it eventually starts to leak water all over the place. The first dispenser I purchased started to leak after 1 week. I dutifully exchanged it for another one, which proceeded to leak after about 2 weeks. It appears that the “O-ring” that connects the spigot to the main housing shrinks when it gets cold. . . a rather fatal flaw for an item intended for use in a refrigerator.
Despite being a lifelong Brita user, I exchanged this product for a Pur 2-stage dispenser. I am now converted and will never go back. The dispenser is rock solid, and the water even tastes better!
One word – Mold
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
Throughout the years I have used and owned many different versions of the Brita Pitcher Water Dispenser. All of these filtered water containers have been great. The only complaint I have ever had with these filters is size. The Brita Ultramax Water Filter Dispenser was supposed to answer this problem. Unfortunately due to bad design, it introduced a multitude of problems that never existed with past Brita products.
Pro:
Size: This water dispenser can definitely hold a lot of water. (Ironically, this is really a disadvantage; as you will find below.)
Con(s):
Mold: If you do not let this filter dry within a maximum of two days, you will get mold. This mold will probably make you ill (sore throat) (Conversely if you look at it from another point of view – it will strengthen your immune system). To avoid this problem, the water dispenser should be washed every week at very least (to be safe you should wash it more often). I have never had this problem with Brita’s other products (I have friends who never washed their Brita pitchers for months, and there is not even the slightest sign of mold when they do wash it).
Left Over Water: Due to the faulty design of the product, there will be left over water both above the filter and below it. Besides turning the product upside down, you cannot dispense all of the water. This is just stupid and hints at the lack of quality assurance testing of this product. Not surprisingly, this helps further contribute to mold growth.
Conclusion:
Save your money and buy Brita’s other well designed pitchers or even Pure’s pitchers. (The key word is pitcher.) You will only waste time and possibly your health with this poorly designed product.
Brita Dispenser
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I was using the Brita water Pitcher but need a larger container for my distilled water that I distill and this works real good with this. I have no dislikes at all as it will hold more than a gallon. I bought one of these for my daughter and I would not have done this if it was a not quality product. I keep it on the counter as I use room temperature water. Buy it you’ll like it..Cheers..Keithmj
Excellent!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This product sure saves me time not to mention my wrist not having to re-fill a pitcher so often. And of course saves a ton of money as well!
I think maybe even a little safer/healthier as we don’t have to use those thin plastic bottles anymore. Great for use for the whole family and they may be more likely to use it now that it’s easy to get to in the frig! I also think it will be wonderful for the hot summers coming up.
Excellent Buy!!!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This is an excellent water filter. Prior to this, I use to buy water to drink. Now I have completely stopped buying water from out side. I have been using this product for last 15 days and I am extremely satisfied with the product.
Well made. Very convenient to use.

The first shipment was broken and Amazon replaced it immediately.
The transaction was a breeze!
I’d be worried about mold, etc.
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
I’ve been using Brita filters for a long time now. They work pretty good.
With a container of this size I’d be worried about mold, etc.
Even with a pitcher filter like I’ve always used, you will find some “yellowish” stuff starting to form around the filter area in the “holding” tank. Also I’ve found it in the pour spout area too. I try to be good about maintenance.
All I’m saying is it may be better to error on the side of refilling more (more fresh “chlorinated” water running through) than stale water sitting for days at a time. The smaller pitchers have less “moist” surface area and you expose them to treated water more often.
Had this for years and no worries
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I’ve had the earlier (no reminder timer) version of this for about 6 years now, and haven’t had any trouble with it. I like how well it fits right on the top shelf of the fridge, and have never had any problems with the spigot leaking. I do need to tip it to get the last dregs of water, but by that point I’m taking it out of the fridge to refill it anyway, so not a problem. The filters are easy to install and last a decent amount of time. As for mold or algae, I’ve never had that problem either. I refill it about once a week, and wash it with warm water and mild dish soap, rinsing well. It really does make water taste a lot better too.

This is an excellent product! Very helpful! I’m also using a small Britta, because we’re a huge family and we all drink a lot of water, both Britta are great. Anyway I believe that I’ll have to buy another one! This is perfect for my family!
Exactly what i wanted

This is a wonderful product. There is no doubt about it.
It depends on your criteria. I did a lot of research about this and its competitive product from PUR. Please go look at the product in any store for its real size to make sure that this is what you really wants.
I like better tasted water coming out fast. PUR is supposed take little more clean water but slower.
I would strongly recommend this product if you really dont want to get a lot of water to be filtered througout the day.
Go for it.
A great way to have reallly good water on tap

I have owned a Brita water pitcher for over 20 years. When my old pitcher ended up getting broken, I searched far and wide for a replacement and was elated to find the Ultra Max Brita Water Pitcher through Amazon.com. I am very satisfied with my new pitcher and its new improved design. I hope to enjoy this one as long and hopefully longer then my last one.

Brita will always get high marks from me
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I have used Brita products for almost 20 years, and I love them. The only thing I used to hate was wasting all that water in the beginning to prepare the filter. Well, I figured out a way around that. After soaking the filter, I fill that same cup (the cup is much taller than the filter) with water and dunk it up and down a few times. I refill the cup and repeat until the water is clear, which is usually 3 or 4 times. The result, I’m not wasting gallons of water. Don’t know about anyone else, but I pay for water usage and any little savings helps. I drink a lot of water, so I change the filter often. Other than that, it’s the best tasting water. I also like that I can purchase the filters in the store, unlike the competition.

Brita 35530 Ultramax Water Filter/Dispenser
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
Below are my impressions of the subject product after several weeks of use…
PRO:
– Product-filtered faucet water tastes better in Seabrook, TX [5 stars]
– Large capacity container means less re-filling [5 stars]
– Great Amazon shipping [5 stars]
CON:
– Expensive for what you get (a plastic box with a lid) [1 star]
– Fairly thin clear plastic container [2 stars]
– Cumbersome to fill in a standard sink [N/A]
– May not survive a drop to the floor while full of water [3 stars]
– Electronic filter change sensor is an un-needed feature [1 star]
– You can’t really be sure it is actually “filtering” your water [N/A]
The overall rating would be a little over 3 stars based on averaging my individual ratings shown above so I had to round down to 3 stars. I would recommend this product but only based on the improvement in taste (can’t be sure how much purifying is being done) and no other real purchase options offered by other companies. If it only lasts a year or two due to cheap construction I would lower my rating to 2 stars.
I recommend PUR over Brita
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
I have used the Brita Ultramax dispenser for the past 4 years and the whole time it leaked from the nozzle and around the base where the nozzle is attached.
I was looking to replace mine and saw many others have had similar issues with leaking. I also noticed reviews recommending the PUR water dispenser instead so I gave it a try.
I bought the PUR DS-1800Z 2-Stage Water Dispenser from Amazon and am very pleased with the item.
It seems put together much better.
It has the same capacity, but is taller and more narrow so it takes up less useable space, which is nice.
Another plus, you can see the water level in the upper reservoir without opening the lid.
The water taste just as good as the Brita, I actually think it tastes even better with the PUR… I live in Oregon, and I think the tap water is probably pretty good to start with.
With Brita I always had to throw out the first couple of fills after replacing the filter; the PUR manual did not indicate this was needed so I just drank it right away and found no after taste at all. Less fuss is good. Also no more charcoal bits lying on the bottom of the container – the filter seems to work better.
I recommned looking at the PUR model.

Great source of good tasting water
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Although I had to run water through the filter 4 times before it tasted non-chlorine-y, we love it. I keep it cool in the fridge, then move it to our board room for meetings. The only thing that could be better, would be a way to keep the water cool outside of the fridge.
Mold!
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I bought this solid Brita Dispenser a year ago and had no problems with leaking. I also would have given it 5 five stars until I discovered mold forming in the bottom of the tank yesterday. I’m such a fan of Brita and will be purchasing this product again once they design this dispenser so it can be taken apart to be cleaned properly.

Very useful for daily use and holds a lot of water.
BTW We didn’t bother to use the meter till now.

More handy than you might think
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I bought this with the intention of getting me to drink more water instead of soft drinks, etc, and it’s been very good for that–it’s now just as easy for me to pour a mug of chilled water right from the refrigerator (I often then add some sugar-free flavored powder like peach tea, etc) as it is to drink canned sodas, without having to pay for and then lug those cans home from the supermarket. And this is way cheaper than paying a lot extra for a refrigerator with a chilled-water dispenser on the door.
But it also comes in handy as a drink dispenser on the picnic table in the back yard; I’ve also used it for boxed wine for a cookout and once for a covered punchbowl at a casual backyard party. It’s large enough for this kind of use and I like having multi-purpose things instead of storing a lot of stuff I rarely use.
Yeah, it also works as a water filter
though I’m just taking that on faith as the Northern California water seems fine to me both before and after Brita filtering. But I like to play it safe…
To the other reviewers who mention mold, all I can say is that I don’t think the mold is coming from the water dispenser…I suggest putting an open box of baking soda in the back of the fridge.
It does take a lot of space in the refrigerator, so you have to plan for it: the upper shelf is better because you don’t have to stoop over to pour from it and there’s usually enough space on top of it to store square stuff like tofu boxes and sliced cheese.
I’ve run it through the dishwasher plenty of times; this works for me since I never use the heat-dry function, which might warp the plastic; I use cool dry overnight for all my dishes.
There’s definitely something to the suggestion from another reviewer to always keep the filter wet (i.e. keep the tank filled instead of half-full); If the filter dries out it takes twice as long to fill the tank and may not work as well.
I buy my filters in 3-packs from Amazon at a discount which I combine with other orders to avoid shipping costs, so the maintenance cost is pretty minimal.
Overall it’s been a good product for me; I drink much less bad stuff, particularly in the summer. I’ll give the fifth star when Brita figures out how to make the spout easier to remove for cleaning.
Perfect fit
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
We purchased a new refrigeator and wanted a new water pitcher that was a better fit. This one fit the bill perfectly and arrived 48 hours after we ordered it, very quick service.
Leaking
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I bought the Brita and love the taste, however we had a leak where the spout it. I guess the seal shrinks when it is in the cold and causes a leak. I returned one after owning it for a week and then the replacement started leaking after two weeks. I wouldn’t want another one.
Clarification on the Brita Ultramax 35530
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
Although it is hard to draw out the last bit of water, I think this design is intentional because you are supposed to keep the bottom of the filter hydrated, so the filter does not dry out. I store mine on the counter, and have not observed any dripping. I am overall happy with my new Brita system and am glad to be buying less plastic bottles. It tastes better than tap water but not as good as spring water, of course. But it is so nice to readily have filtered water available.
Good Stuff, Poor Build
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
I’m being hopeful that it’s really purifying regular tap water; poor build; started leaking (very slightly though) from the joint where the dispenser (tap) is attached to the tank; I called the manufacturer and getting a couple of washers; I will need to fix it once I get that.
Great for kids to help themselves
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
We keep ours in the fridge, down low so my four-year-old son can get his own water. No problems yet (after four or five months) with buildup or scratching.
I always thought our tap water tasted odd and drank bottled water. Now I use refillable water bottles and save money, effort (it’s hard to carry those 24 packs!), and storage space. I also feel better about the environmental impact. Everyone in the family is drinking more water.
There’s a big improvement in the taste of our ice cubes, also, now that I fill the trays from this dispenser.
An alternative to all of those bottles of water
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I have been using a Brita pitcher for about a year. I was happy with it, to a degree, but I wanted something with a greater capacity. I live by myself and still I found that I was going through a half of a dozen bottles of “spring” water a day before I got my first Brita. However, it only gave me a coupe of glasses before I had to refill it which meant the the next glass might not be as well chilled.
With the Brita Ultramax I can get about a whole day’s worth of water before I need to refill it. Because I still have my original pitcher I use it to fill up the Ultramax (it’s just easier that way, plus, it’s now double-filtered). I still wish that it was bigger but it does the job and I have not had a problem with mold or anything like that. It is a great alternative to adding more and more plastic bottles to the landfill each day.
Great Product
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
If you like clean water and have used Brita products before then you know that Brita uses a solid filtration that delivers good clean tasting water. This dispenser is nice and big and slides in a fridge very nicely. Holds a lot more water hence you don’t have to fill it as often. Great product I would reccomend it to a friend.
It leaks.

Works great
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Brita is great for removing that “funny” taste from tap water, particularly if you’ve recently moved from one part of the country to another. I bought one for my son in college, who complains that all the water in the midwest tastes like it came out of a swimming pool.
great

Item received ahead of schedule–perfect condition. These are great, especially in the summer–we have stopped buying bottled water!
just don’t care for the taste
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
While my husband says he likes it, I just can’t seem to get past the taste of the Brita; I can still taste the “tap” or chemical part of the water. My parents lived in a city where the water was VERY bad, and they could not use it either – it just didn’t take away the bad taste. We finally just bought a Reverse Osmosis system for our kitchen sink and I can’t say how glad I am to be giving up the Brita! YUCK! I’m giving it 3 stars only because it’s cheap & will help SOME with poor taste of the water but in my opinion, it doesn’t do the job well enough.
Quite a few issues
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
With a product of this capacity I expected a better product. The current design had my common sense kick in to simply purchase a sink attachment filter after a few tests over a 90 day period. Well ok, the last 60 some odd days of use, the first thirty I mistakenly trusted the design to perform.
I like brita and filtered water, but I had to throw this out.
Mold, slimes, and a few other items that are hazardous to a persons well being are the main issue. Even with weekly cleaning there was some biological return. The worst was testing the filter after 58 days.
The filter itself contained a plethora of microscopic crawlies. Nothing fatal, but we cultured a bunch of varieties that cause bad breath, stomach, and throat issues. All of which were also found in the ‘clean’ water in the well below.
Three kinds of fungi had invaded a previously pristine, chef quality, fridge. All growing from the protected colony in this huge reservoir.
I’d have to recommend a smaller capacity pitcher or in a family sized home a faucet attachment. If you are going to pay for something to give you clean water, you might as well get clean water.
Perfectly clean water
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I don’t see how people can get mold in this thing. The only way that’s going to happen is if you hardly drink water and you let it sit there for a long time. I refill it about once every other day and have no signs of mold anywhere within the unit. The nozzle allows for me to use this water for cooking and it’s a lot more handy than a pitcher especially since it holds so much more water. Also, having the electronic filter indicator is great since you don’t have to worry about trying to remember when the filter needs to be changed; you just look at the little screen and it lets you know. The only con is that when the water gets really low you have to tilt the unit since the nozzle is positioned slightly higher than the base.

I’ve had my Brita for approx. 5 weeks now with no problems at all.
My water tastes great and I don’t have to worry about all the added chemicals in it.The Brita holds a lot of water so I only need to fill it once a day and the electronic gauge is also very handy to let you know when to change the filter. As for cleaning, since you’re storing fresh clean water in your refrigerator you shouldn’t have to clean it until you replace the filter.
Just What We Needed

We had been looking for the Brita Ultramax for over a year. It is a great water filtering device. Easy to clean and you have fresh filtered water available at the tap!
New container sold with older type filters: “Bad fit”
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
To be very, very clear: I am reviewing the product; not the store.
-I so loved and appreciated this product for its water purification for a sulfur type smelling well-source water.
-Hmm….Time passed. Mine had served well but was becoming rather a “dirty-beige” although I had used bleach. (Of course, bleach, over time, will degrade many plastics. Of this I am aware and knew the consequences. It slowly “absorbed” the “colors” of the elements it was “filtering.”
-It just seems smart to do!
-I still think it’s smart to clean such a purification device such a thorough cleanser while rinsing very, very well. And there’s an irony as bleach also can be used to purify water.
-But who wants to drink bleach unless one is w/o any other source to purify drinking water, i.e., surving after a disaster or some such situation?)
>>>Well, I bought the new model.< <<
-No explanation was given on the box that this was the “style/model” and rather different.
-It will measure filter usage for you via a
little touch pad at the top which tells you when to replace the filter.
>>>My little touch pad isn’t accurate.< <<
nor are the instructions clear as to how to reset this.
-In fact, I do not remember finding any and do remember scouring the box looking for instructions for the touch pad measurement device.
-I would try to “reset” the “touch pad” but it would not “update,” “reset” correctly to show water usage.
-It would stay at the same spot not revealing how soon to replace the filter.
-Luckily I had kept my old “red ring” device that also functions to show filter usage and indicates when a replacement is due.
-I went by that indicator as it was more reliable.
>But, I became so tired of a poor fitting filter. Why?
-Retailers, such as, Ace Hardware, and one other fine retailer, like Home Depot or Rite Aid, where I bought more filters, are selling the older model filter where one uses the “red dial” snapped into place to show filtration usage.
>>>The old filters do not fit the new model!< <<
-Now this is probably Brita’s responsibility to clarify and make sure their retailers know what they are selling.
-So what occurs?
>>>Ugh! Dirty appearance of water!
>>>Well, the little bead type things which filter the water and have an appearance of little pebbles, leak all over inside the top and bottom! The water is clear but the “pebbles” create a poor appearance for ingesting the final product.
-Now, I imagine that the retailers are either being sold the old filters.
-Or must they sell out of the old filters and, so, are not selling us an updated filter model that would fit tightly…Or?
-Could Brita be selling out their old filter stock?
>>>Or? Might Brita actually be thinking of never updating the filter model to fit the newer container style??
-Nooo! We want our Brita’s to work and work as well as the old style.
-We want tight fitting filters where the filtration particles don’t end up in the water we are drinking.
-Don’t tell me I have not inserted these correctly.
-Ha! -Don’t dare as I’d been using this system for 5 years….
>>>Then THE change!
>>>Brita! Snap out of it! “Smell the water!”
-Update your filters or label them correctly via some emblem, explanation, or something.
-Also, clearly explain the usage of the “touch pad meter” on top of the new model. Great idea! But useless if it doesn’t work! -(Geesh! Yes, of course, I immediately found the reset button on my own.)
>>>Brita filter users: keep your old “red rings”
that measured filtered usage.< <<
-If anyone has a clue as to how to “enhance” the fit of the old filters to the new style Brita container, please share!
-No, muscle is not an issue here.
-The filters are just plain a wee bit too small; too small so that particles end up in the drinking water.
-This is one awesome, inexpensive and effective filtration system for those of us who can’t afford a great filtration system nor want to add to the tons, tons of plastic drinking water bottles which might not end up being recycled correctly.
-But this isn’t a review written by someone who can actually test the water’s purity.
-Results as to the specific pollutants which are filtered are probably to be found at the Brita site but I’m too lazy to go there.
-I just liked the features of the system for the above reasons and it worked!
-I just know that the older system cleared the “sulfur/sulphur
[acc. to Webster's Online Dictionary there are two spellings as I understand it] smell and/or taste.
-It rendered the water drinkable where I was living.
-Hmmm…I needed to use it again, after a major move to a city as the city water caused my stomach to react, to be specific, “with revenge.”
-Now I’ve lived in this city before but had adjusted to a more purified water. Suddenly the water is making my system go wacko and I sorely needed this filtration.
-Sniff! I had to give it up but only after my body could finally accept the “city” water again through showers and other methods of absorbing the water.
-Too many “pebbles” in my filtered water made me hang the system up to dry!
-I do not want to revisit water deliveries as the large bottles are just too difficult for some of us to lift.
-I didn’t want to just drink bottled water and use more and more plastic.
-I still continue to re-use one plastic water bottle over and over until it’s all dented before I toss it for another.
-I’m just that way as many of you are, I am sure. So this is a great solution.
-The only recycling query would regard the filters.
I tried my best to “save our environment” but keep my stomach/bowels in functioning and comfortable mode.
-So Brita, please return to your awesome service standards and help us out by offering us the correct filters for your new container.
-Label them.
-Pull the old filters that don’t fit off the shelves of retailers selling the new container. Or come up with another solution.
>>>Brita! Step up to the “plate” in front of “your drinking fountain” and clean up the water! Please???<<<
GOOD WATER + $$$ SAVINGS!!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I could no longer lift 5 gallon Sparkletts bottles, per doctor’s orders, so got 1 gallon bottles, and really hated all that plastic. Someone at work told me to “go Brita” and I said I have the worst landlord in the world and they won’t allow me to install that gadget to my kitchen sink, and my co-worker said, “No, they have pitchers!” I explored, and found a great price here at Amazon, bought it, the water tastes great, and even with filter replacement, I am saving a TON of money, which I really needed to do, as well. So I highly recommend this product. One thing they don’t bother telling you, is that you fill the clear part of the dispenser ONLY – you don’t fill it up so far that water sits in the “reservoir,” which is the plastic “top” to this contraption. GREAT PRODUCT and I love the little reader on top that tells you when you need to replace your filter!
College Dorm Room Necessity
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Living in a college dorm room, this item is a necessity to make sure the faucet water isn’t pumping out harmful chemicals. I love my Brita.
Electronic sensor thing is kind of a hoax. I don’t even bother using it, but the filter is great regardless.
Good, could be better
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
The water is clean, tastes good, etc… But the tap dispenses the water with force only when it is full. As the container goes below the half-line, the water pressure from the tap becomes less and by the time it gets to a quarter tank, you need to tilt it forward to get the water out. I know I am nit-picking, but hey, I’m just giving an honest review.
Fungus buildup
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I bought this a while back. We have a well lit home and do not like to drink cold water and prefer room temperature water instead. after about 15 days on our dining table, we started seeing green algae like stuff in the dispenser. we washed it and the same thing happened in ten days. when we called the customer care their answer was we have to keep it in the refrigerator or that will happen!
Disappointed!
It’s not mold, it’s algae – ew.
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
According to the email response I got from the Brita website, there is algae in the water supply (varying levels depending on where ya live) and Brita filters do not get rid of algae. The list of things it does get rid of is on the box and info when you buy it. Apparently I must live in a high algae content water area, because both my Ultramax (on a counter away from direct sunlight),and space saver pitcher (in the fridge) acquire a thin film of green in the bottom less than a week after cleaning. And the same thing happens to a friend’s Ultramax who lives a few miles away. It’s pretty inconvenient to have to take apart and wash the things every week, so I’ll probably get rid of the Ultramax. When I got these I assumed they’d only need cleaning every two months when I replaced the filters. Can’t tell you how lucky you are if you live somewhere that has low algae content in the water – very disappointed that I can no longer use this product. I’ll continue using the fridge pitcher only because it’s easier to take apart and clean so frequently.

This is a great item if you want filtered water. I have had it for over 5 years. Please note that it should be cleaned out well every few months. There is a slimy residue that forms in the corners and sometimes on the top. Otherwise, this is great.
Great system!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I had been using the smarller Britta pitcher(holds 5 glasses). That works wonderfully by the way, just too small for larger families or serious water drinkers. The only complaint with that was the size caused me to have to fill it constanly as I drink a lot of water. So I decided to upgrade. First I purchased the faucet mount filter and was disappointed. The thing moves slower than molassas! I returned that and was going to get a standard pitcher filter setup but decided to go with this one because it was only four dollars more than a pitcher that held ten glasses of water. This provides 18 glasses of the best tasting water ever. I live in an area where our water is reputed to be among the best in the country(at least that what the local officials say) and this only improves on it!! Now I fill this up,put it on a shelf in the fridge and voila,I have great tasting ice cold water at my fingertips. I think this is much more cost effective than buying bottled water. The best part of it all? My kids have now become water drinkers!! It might be because of the easy to use tap, which by the way makes this much more convienant to use as opposed to the pitcher. Although they swear that they drink more water now because it “just tastes better”.
I am, so far, very pleased with this sytem. I think it is a wise investment.
Great tasting water without the chlorine smell or taste at a great price! It doesn’t get much better than that as far as I can see!!!!!!!
The perfect solution for a family
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
We have been using the Ultramax for eight months. We had a regular Brita Pitcher, but when it is full it was too heavy for our young children to lift and pour. This model with a spout lets the kids refill their glasses without mess. It is also easy to refill and it never leaks when you take it from the sink back to the fridge.
Some of the reviews mention a vent in the lid leading to fridge odors – there is no vent in the lid of mine. There is less air flow than a standard pitcher. The water never tastes off. We have to refill it at least every other day so it doesn’t have time to sit and collect odor either.
To contradict another review, the spigot never leaks and is situated close to the bottom of the tank. I tip it to get that last half-cup of water out, but no big deal. We have had no mold issues either. Please note that several of the 1-star reviews were made by the same person.
Water Solutions for Large Families
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
If you have a large family and wish to encourage them to drink lots of water during the hot months, then you can’t go wrong with the Brita Ultramax Dispenser. This wonderful convenience allows everyone in the family to fill up with ice cold water rather than sugary sweet soft drinks or soda. If is easy to use, but I recommend that only older children or adults refill the pitcher, as it is very heavy when full. I also recommend that you keep a two liter bottle of tap water in the bottom of the refrigerator so that you can use it to refill the dispenser with cold water, rather than luke-warm tap water; this keeps the water ice cold and the refreshment coming no matter how hot the day. The only drawback is that the refrigerator has to be opened to fill the glass and this can raise the base temperature of the refrigerator, but if the pitcher is close to the opening of the door, then the refrigerator
door never has to be fully opened and less cool air will escape. Young children should be supervised only until they get the knack of shutting off the spout and not leaving the refrigerator door open. Otherwise, this product pays for itself in the first month, filters included!!
Mold
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
Throughout the years I have used and owned many different versions of the Brita Pitcher Water Dispenser. All of these filtered water containers have been great. The only complaint I have ever had with these filters is size. The Brita Ultramax Water Filter Dispenser was supposed to answer this problem. Unfortunately due to bad design, it introduced a multitude of problems that never existed with past Brita products.
Pro:
Size: This water dispenser can definitely hold a lot of water. (Ironically, this is really a disadvantage; as you will find below.)
Con(s):
Mold: If you do not let this filter dry within a maximum of two days, you will get mold. This mold will probably make you ill (sore throat) (Conversely if you look at it from another point of view – it will strengthen your immune system). To avoid this problem, the water dispenser should be washed every week at very least (to safe you should wash it more often).

I like this system
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I’ve had this dispenser for about 4 months now. It’s worked great for me so far, water tastes good, but perhaps I’ve not had it long enough to experience mold problems which I am concerned about. My only real compliant with this dispenser is that it does not completely disassemble so the inner most compartment cannot be directly accessed.
I figure the best solution to any mold problems is to take the filter out, fill it up with water and some sort of detergent and let it sit for a while.
Clean water – finally!!

I don’t need to put a few drops of bleach into my dishpan where I live. You can smell the chlorine as the water comes from the tap. It’s not only disgusting, it’s undrinkable! My Brita unit has given both me and the dog the ability to have pure, clean, non-smelly water to drink!

I also have one of the older models and have loved it for about 10 years…even the cats won’t drink tap water anymore! I have purchased several for friends and family. I put it in the dishwasher about once a month and have had only sporadic problems with mold. It will definitely get you to drink more water.
Love this Pitcher!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I have been using Brita filters and pitchers for years now. My old pitcher got a couple of cracks in it so I decided to buy a larger one for the frig. I read most of the reviews and decided to try it anyway and I love it! I drink a lot of water so there’s not much chance of mold growing in mine. The taste is even better than from my old one. I would highly recommend this to anyone who wants good tasting and odor free water. I wish the battery could be replaced though. If mine lasts longer than the 5 years, I would still want to use that feature.
Less fill ups
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
This Brita product is great for those of us that drink a lot of water and hate filling up a regular Brita container. The main difference is that instead of taking the container out, you put your glass up to the spigot and fill up. The only negative is the space it takes up in the frig. For me, it is worth that space.

I love my new Brita Ultramax Dispenser! I have enough cold water all of the time right in my fridge with a handy spout. I did not have good luck with the Brita filter that is attached to the faucet for some reason, so this was the perfect solution for me. It has also helped cut down on my use of and purchase of bottled water. Even though I recycle the plastic bottles, it is still better for the enviornment to cut down the use of them.Brita Ultramax Dispenser
Outstanding Product and Design!!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I would generally recommend the Brita 35530 Ultramax Dispenser over all of the Brita pitchers or kitchen faucet filtration systems.
I had a very bad experience with kitchen faucet filtration systems and would definitely not recommend them. I tried two different versions before finally giving up on that technology (leaks, filtration way too slow, clogs in system, etc.)
The main problem with Brita pitchers is they require frequent refills because their water storage capacity is relatively small (6-10 cups at most).
This the best combination (it has high water capacity and doesn’t take up your kitchen faucet). This is all you need for at-home water filtration. In my opinion the best Brita product on the market and I definitely recommend buying it. It is also readily available at most major U.S. retailers. Highly Recommended!!
Can be difficult to fill, some leaking
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
I own a previous model that was just like this except without the electronic reminder. I keep mine in the fridge. It can be a pain to fill, and the water is susceptible to fridge odors since the cap is vented. I’ve noticed minor leaking from the spout’s connection to the housing, and I’m keeping my eye on it. Had it for a year and a half. A couple of times when I’ve cleaned it (as I do every two months at filter replacement) I have noticed possible mildew/mold/suspicious-looking pink stuff.

Better Tasting Water
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
We had to replace our previous water filter when the cat knocked it down onto the ground. We drink a lot of water, and the Brita Ultramax Dispenser works for our family because we do not have to fill it constantly. It makes the coffee and tea that we drink taste better, also. I highly recommend it to anyone who needs to drink more water (and don’t we all) but cannot stand the taste or the smell of the water that comes straight out of the tap. This takes care of the taste and the smell.
Works, but leaks
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
I just got this a couple of days ago – and I like it except that it leaks where the spout attaches to the unit. It is not a huge amount, but the counter has a wet spot within a few minutes. I am trying to resolve it myself, but may be returning it. Am a bit disappointed, because my mom has an older model that she loves and has had for years.
Am updating my review because my husband was able to resolve the leak – and that is the only negative I had, so I am pleased – it filters the water quickly and it has a great taste (our water isn’t terrible to begin with, but has a definite hint of clorine odor when unfiltered).
Time Saver
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
With far fewer trips back and fourth from the fridge to the sink this dipenser is a real time saver versus the pitcher. I like the LCD vanishing bars to alert you when a new filter is needed. My refridgerator also has shelves that slide out which helps with filling. I find reaching back and pulling up on the lid’s left rear corrner the easiest method for popping the top off. The filters do a fantastic job of making our town water taste great. My Wife was hooked on Aquafina (She rejected all other brands.) Britta won her over! No more Aquafina bottles filling our recycling bin. The spotlight is now on the first word in the slogan- REDUCE reuse recycle.
Love this system, I have used it for 10+ years
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
This is a great system for keeping cold restaurant-quality filtered water in your fridge. I have used one of these for over ten years, both in and out of the fridge, and have never seen any growth of any kind. I bought the original model years ago, and then finally, it fell out of the fridge and broke, and I replaced it with this model, which is even better. Just fill empty water bottles for your own bottled water.
Tastes great, no fumbling with bottles
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I have a dispenser in my fridge door but it gets really gross really quickly. Just fill up the Brita dispenser & pop it in the fridge and you don’t have to clutter your home with all those empty water bottles the way I do! Plus with all this “save the environment” stuff, I feel better about lowering my environmental footprint!

Very pleased

I like everything about this filter. I like the design, the built-in tap makes it very handy. The taste of the water is great. I use the water filtered from Brita for everything possible. I even tried washing my hair in it, and my hair gleamed. I would even recommend washing your face with it if you are so inclined. The filtered water cleans the skin better than tap water. But, most importantly, the taste is REALLY great. And I don’t have to buy bottles of water anymore.
Best Water Ever!!!!!

This is a great product. I got so tired of buying bottled water that I finally decided to buy this large Brita system and I just love it. It has already paid for itself and the filters last quite a whie. An added plus is the filter moniter on the unit. I can’t say enough good things about it.
Brita great for coffee makers that need filtered water.
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
We bought our Brita water dispenser to help with our coffee maker. Before we had mineral deposits building up even with a water softener. We initially purchased a pitcher, but were constantly filling it after each coffee brew. This larger unit makes it much easier to have enough filtered water on hand for repeated coffee brewings, as well as for drinking from the glass. We are glad we bought the Brita 35530 Ultramax dipenser.
love it!

I believe I’ve had this product ever since it first came out. I was given this as a gift back in college by my parents and that was over 10 plus years ago. It still is going strong, not flimsy construction by any means. After all this time, I decided to replace the spigot because the rubber washer was looking worn but was not leaking. Brita has excellent customer service and all I did was email them for a new one and they sent it out asap. Now the unit is as good as new.
In regards to mold that some people are mentioning, I combat that with washing the unit every other or 3rd time it is filled. Anything that is clear that allows light in when water is present and sitting will eventually grow some green stuff. Soap and water take care of it quickly and I use qtips in the creases, corners, and underneath the back of the spigot. Works like a charm. I’m not sure I’ve ever come across anything maintenance free when it comes to holding water, not even my dogs water bowls so to have that expectation is not realistic.
They do have an insert at the top that allows water to go through so you can take a glass and pour it in the insert to help fill it back up if you want to keep it in the fridge. I didn’t care for that method for myself as I’m not a patient person and would rather just fill it up all at one time than little by little so I just put it on my counter and fill it there with the top off. If you think the hole doesn’t let enough water in, you can easily open it by shaving off a little plastic with a knife.
Other uses for this other than home use would be picnic, if you have to go elsewhere to work that doesn’t have filtration, or perhaps a sports game if you are going for the day.
I love it- until it cracked ( and I cried)
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I loved the system, but found a huge crack in it wthin a month. Water poured out all over my kitchen. Yes, I must have hit it on something, but it must have been a pretty good crack. I live in a childless household so I have no one to blame it on . I will replace it, but I am pondering the choices and may look for a slightly thicker container. You do need to remove it, fill it and replace it in frig, so it will take a certain amount of moving around and should be more sturdy. Otherwise……………….. loved it.

I only use this as a dispenser(not using Brita filter), i use it to store RO water.(i have a 5 stage RO filter)
It does not take any cleaning(since i use it to store RO water ONLY) and looks great. I have to place something on the backend to tilt the “Brita 35530 Ultramax Dispenser” so there is never ‘dead zone’ in the container. With this price for a nice water dispenser, it is a good deal, no need to mention, i have a spare Briter Fitler that i don’t know what to do with.
Terrific product

This dispenser holds so much more water than the pitcher we had! The dispenser nozzle is so convenient too. My husband and I drink a lot of water so we love this.
I love my Brita Dispenser!
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I love this dispenser. Easy to fill, but most of all it takes the chlorine taste out of the water! The first filter didn’t last as long as I thought it would, but our water is pretty bad, so, it’s worth not having to buy bottled water! Makes my coffee taste great too! I LOVE IT! I realize it does not filter out EVERYthing, but it takes the bad taste out, so I LOVE IT! Did I tell you I LOVE MY BRITA?!
Large footprint and tough to clean
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
It’s a whopper, and you’ll need a very large fridge or countertop.
My only gripe is, with bad texas water, residue builds up in the plastic fitting around the spout, and it takes a pretty tricky maneuver to clean it out. Like all brita’s, excessively scratch prone.
Filter doesn’t make much difference
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
After spending $30 plus dollars on this Brita filter, I have to say I am disappointed. I’ve used it for six months to come to this conclusion, and while it makes the tap water taste A LITTLE better, it’s not that much better. And really, isn’t that the whole point? I was hoping it would taste like spring water and I would never have to buy spring water again. Wrong! I’m going back to spring water.
Now, I have NOT compared the Brita filter to other filters, so I can’t speak to whether Brita is just a bad brand or whether nobody will ever be able to get tap water tasting like fresh water, no matter what is done to it. But personally, this one doesn’t do it for me.
Let’s say the taste is good enough for you, how is the quality of the container/dispenser? I have no issues with it. OK so you can’t get out the last few drops from the bottom, but that’s not a big deal really. It’s a good solid container, fits on the top shelf in the fridge, and I love the tap. That, and the fact that it makes tap water A LITTLE more bearable, is why I give it 2 stars, instead of 1.

I just bought the Ultramax and it is great. Our fridge has a filtering system for water in the door, but I thought it still did not give me bottled water taste. The ultramax dispenser does. It is a little interesting to fill. You either take it out of the fridge to the sink or use a pitcher to fill it in the fridge. I do the latter. They could have made the filling port open from the front vs the rear to make filling a little easier. However, I love the clean fresh taste of the water.
Works well
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
We traded in a water cooler service for the Brita dispenser after using one on vacation this summer. The dispenser fits nicely in the refrigerator and the water tastes great. I think we are actually drinking more water than before. One thing that I really like is that I can fill and lift it myself, which was harder with the water cooler replacement bottles. The drawbacks mentioned in other reviews are true–you need to remove if from the refrigerator to fill it and you can’t really drain it to the bottom. We have not had any problems with mold or with the unit leaking as other reviewers mentioned. Overall, I knew the drawbacks when I bought it, and for us the positives have outweighed those factors.
The best

i have had my brita for more than 6 years and never had a mold problem or a leak i recently bought this new pitcher with the digital top only because my brita cracked after my son dropped it, guess it was time to upgrade. Just like with the old one the new one is just as good i’ve had it for over six months and its been good and i would highly recommend it

I love this Brita filter. It has increased my water intake easily a hundred fold. My home water wasn’t really that bad tasting but with “city water” you always sort of wonder. Now I’m sure.
What are these people talking about?

I’ve owned this item for about 18 months now and love it. Yes, I have experienced a small amount of leakage on occasion from the seal on the spigot. Very minor leakage, as in a few drops over the course of a week or more. The improvement in the quality of my tap water is well worth that small issue. I’ve experienced no mold or any other kind of sanitary issue at all. It is larger than a pitcher, and therefore not terribly easy to fill if you’re yanking it out of your firdge and trying to put it under a tap. I use a plastic cup, filling it through the opening on the top while still in the fridge, and have no difficulty doing that. Maybe I’m just too thrilled by having such and improvement in the quality of my water as compared to the tap, and I’d be happy with any water filter, but I am amazed to see such negative reviews for a product I have been so satisfied with.
GREAT PRODUCT
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I really have enjoyed using this product. It was a lot smaller then I had expected so it doesn’t take up all that much room in the fridge. I use a pitcher to fill it up and it is quick and easy. Very pleased and it was exactly what I wanted. Would recommend it to anyone who drinks more then a pitcher of water a day, because of the volume it holds.
it leaks!
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I bought the ultramax simply because of the size. From day one the spigot has leaked. I tried taking it off and putting it back on being careful not to strip the threads. Still leaks to the point of water all over the refridgerator.
I think i will throw it away.
Definitely worth the $$$

My stepdaughter, my husband and I love our Brita UltraMax Smart Dispenser. It is simple to get a cold and tasty glass of water. My only warning is that if it is hard for someone to lift a gallon of water or do not have the fridge space then it is a bad choice. The weight of one gallon of water is about 9 pounds so with the filter system I presume it is about 11 pounds in all to life and put into a refrigerator. (about 5 kilograms) This can be hard for those who cannot lift for medical reasons. The good news is that there are two ways to fill the tank. One Way is to use the smaller lid which is in the top cover of the tank. This can be done by pitcher or a large glass that was filled in the sink. The second way is to take the entire dispenser out of the fridge and either remove the cover. We do this both ways in my family depending on who decides to fill the dispenser. The dispenser is about the size of a 12 pack of beer or a medium sized turkey.
The parts come apart easily to wash with regular dish soap and water in the kitchen sink. I recommend doing this everytime the filter is replaced.
hate it – poor design
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I can’t stand this thing. The tap is one inch above the bottom of the container so you can’t empty it properly. Even if you tilt it, the water rushes to the two cavities either side of the tap. Refilling it is the worst though. You can only do a little at a time and it’s awkward to fit under the tap. Forget about filling it unless your sink is completely empty. If you tip it up the filter falls out. The filter pebbles frequently come out the top and can easily end up in your water. Quite simply I hate it.

!!!!! BEFORE BUYING THIS – READ THIS !!!!!
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I really should’ve done some research before buying this.
All of the reviews are 100% correct. There is considerable mold growing under the water dispenser area, despite diligent washing 2-3x per week. God knows this water isn’t healthy!
In addition, water leaks under the main water dispenser area, so this is a huge negative
Lastly, there are areas where the water doesn’t drain.
Brita 35530 Ultramx Dispenser
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I purchased this water filter dispenser for my elderly mother, who wanted a filtered water dispenser for her coffee brewing. I initially was looking at the pitcher-style filter, but felt it would be too heavy for her to manuever when full. She is very pleased with the dispenser.
Mission Accomplished – We drink more water!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
We bought this product to encourage healthy drinking practices in our family. I thought that if we had cold, filtered water we’d be more likely to drink it and we’d contribute less garbage to landfills by no longer buying individual bottles. Well, it definitely worked! We drink water much more often now! (In fact, we found that we were using so much water we bought a filter to go on the sink because we were emptying this way too often. Now, water for cooking, ice, etc comes from there and only drinking water comes from this dispenser.)
My biggest concern before purchasing this item was that the spout would leak as every other pitcher I’ve ever had has done. Well, so far, with frequent use over the past month (we have to refill it every other day), I’ve not seen a single drop come out of that spout without us pulling the lever!
As far as the taste of the water, it’s not perfect but I’m the only person in our family of three that isn’t 100% satisfied. It does remove the majority of the terrible taste in our tap water, but it’s not quite the same as bottled water. However, being that I am extremely picky with water and I can still drink this, I’d say it does its job.
I am very pleased with this purchase and actually considered buying a 2nd before deciding to buy the filter for our sink faucet. We would absolutely recommend this product to anyone wanting to increase their water consumption or decrease their carbon footprint!

Non-airtight filter design creates issues
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I was initially happy with this product until I noticed some sediment forming in a ring underneath the filter itself. I figured it was a faulty filter and replaced it. Not too long afterwards it also started forming the same sediment ring.
My guess is that if you pour water into the basin too quickly, it can “rock” the filter from its base and allow some unfiltered water to leak in. Whatever the case, I’ve decided to try the Pur filter instead, which does have a lock-in seal as well as a barrier that prevents water from gushing over it.
AWESOME!

This is a must for those trying to help the environment. No more water bottles!! Fits nicely into the fridge and keeps water clean, cold and pure. Love this product!
great so far

i’ve had mine for a year and have never had the mold problem others have reported. i love it. the capacity is great and the nozzle is perfect for refilling bottles. my only complaint used to be hauling it into the sink to fill, but now i just leave it on the counter and use the faucet hose. =)
Very pleased with this product.
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
We’ve had this filter for about a month now, and we’re very happy we purchased it. For the last three years, we’ve used a Brita pitcher with no problems. However, we just moved into a larger apartment with a larger fridge and decided to try out the larger dispenser. Best decision ever!
Pros:
1. Price on Amazon was better than any that we saw in stores.
2. Results in great tasting water (we’re in NYC).
3. Having a larger reservoir is such a luxury after being used to the Brita pitcher.
4. No need to remove it to pour yourself a glass.
5. Easy to refill; we just remove the top lid and run it under the sink.
6. I prefer the spigot versus pouring from the Brita pitcher.
Cons:
1. I’m not thrilled about having a meter that runs on a permanently enclosed battery. However, if and when it dies, we’re in no worse position than we were when we used a Brita pitcher (which has such no meter) for three years.
2. As others have indicated, you can never totally empty all of the water through the spigot because it’s opening is higher than the bottom of the reservoir. I suppose this was a decision they made to maximize the size of the reservoir. Either way, it’s only a slight con, and any excess water would be poured out whenever the dispenser is being cleaned anyways.
Other:
1. Size; if there were a Brita dispenser with a larger reservoir, I would have bought that instead. We tend to drink a lot of water and use this water when we cook. As a result, we end up refilling the Brita dispenser almost every day or every other day. Maybe if there were several model dispensers with all different sizes?
Faulty water valve flooded my fridge.
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
This product seemed like it would be a great resolution to our needs of larger volumes of clean drinking water.
I filled the unit, placed it into my fridge…. only to find the next morning that the container was 1/3 empty and water all over the fridge from the valve allowing a constant flow during the night.
Tasty water
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I bought this to replace my home water delivery. It is a less expensive option for clean pure drinking water. I put strongly flavored Los Angeles drinking water into the Brita and it comes out tasting fine. Often you can tell the difference with tea; this water makes an excellent tea.
It is far easier to fill than expected. It fits right into the sink and I can run the tap into the fill hole easily. It’s not too heavy to carry to its spot, unlike the 5 gallon bottled water.
My only complaint would be that, when the water drops below a certain level, the tap will no longer dispense it, since it is below the tap level. I choose to use that as a reminder to refill.
I know some suggest keeping it in the refrigerator but who has that much room in the fridge?
All in all, I’m very pleased.
Works for me
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
Bought this to replace an earlier version (that I dropped). Works great. Easy to slide in and out. Fills faster than my old one. Seems to be a lighter weight that my first model. Only had it for a week, so no problems to report.
Great filter, Terrible design for “replacement meter”
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
We love our filter, but we’ve had to resort to a reminder in our calendar to tell us to replace the filter. That’s what the “replacement meter” was supposed to do! It lasted 9 months – that’s it. That’s 4 filter changes.
Crappy design that you can’t replace the battery! Come on, Brita!
Easy, Same Brita Quality, Perfect for small family of 2-4
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
We had previously used Brita products, specially the 1 gallon jug. But it was too small for us and I always felt lazy to fill it, because once I fill, I had to wait to drink just a glass of water. And then, within few glasses, repeat all over again. Due to the smaller size of previous filter we ended up buying more plastic water bottles.
With Brita Ultramax, all our problems were solved and very first day I realized how good my purchase is..
1. Nice small design, so filter can be placed easily anywhere in Kitchen. Nice little tap for ease of operation.
2. Good water quality. I did not check with any water quality meter, but water certainly tastes better after filtration
3. Uses same Brita standard filter
4. Enough quantity of water for a family of 2-4
5. Very easy to refill, good for lazy guys like me
6. Helps me making an environmental friendly person by avoiding plastic bottles.
7. It also as the filter indicator which helps you to decide when to replace the filter.
I would highly recommend this product.
Works great in the fridge
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Before purchasing this large Brita, I was buying 2.5 gallon containers of spring water and keeping them in the refrigerator to have cold drinking water. By switching to the Brita, I’m saving about $200 a year and the water tastes just as good. The Brita does hold less water than the 2.5 gal container and needs to be refilled a few times a week at the rate my household consumes water. I keep a gallon jug of tap water in the fridge to refill the Brita with and never run out of ice cold water. The tap (spigot) of the Brita can be operated with one finger while holding a glass.
I haven’t experienced the mold problems some have alluded to here, but I’m not using it in a hot room. For use in the fridge, I recommend it without reservation.
Great.. until you have to clean it.
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I’ve had mine for about a year. It’s a great tank until you have to clean inside it. It’s always nearly impossible to remove the shell that separates the tank from the rest of the system. I guess some sort of vacuum will happen between the clear plastic tank and the white plastic shell that houses the filter, because it typically refuses to come off at all. After my last battle with attempting to clean my tank, I’m exhausted and finished. I’m getting a pitcher version. This one’s too much of a hassle.
Poor design.
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
The spigot on the britta system is poorly designed. It breaks and snapps off really easy. Ours brook when it fell into the sink from the counter. A mear 3 inch drop. I ordered one and it was delivered and the spigot was brooken in the same spot so I returned it. I then went to purchase one and was glad I opened the box it came in first because that one also had the spigot brooken on it. To bad because I really like the brita filter system.

just trying to get away from plastic bottles. We also have to bleach our well on a regular basis, so this dispenser is perfect.
It works…for now
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
My previous versions of this unit developed a musty, mildew-like flavor after a few years (though filters were changed on schedule).
A sloppily attached sticker on the bottom couldn’t be removed without dissolving the plastic, leaving the product with a permanently messy look.
Great Water Filter
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
We had a Pur water filter for many years that we were very happy with, until they changed how they make their filters. After changing them to charcoal, it took literally hours for a pitcher of water to filter through to the bottom so it could be used. We switched to the Brita and it filters SO fast, we love it. We never run out of filtered water any more.
It is keep leaking

I have used this about three weeks and I realized that it cannot make no leaking.
I have tried to fix it with turning the water lever area. Then, it looks like fine, however, after one week, it make leaking again

Little timer thing for filter never worked but i can count months. filter and dispenser works great, fits in refrig. Tastes way better than the tap water.

Really disappointing…
So much better than you think…
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I never thought I’d love a water dispenser as much as I do now…
I used to have the older model of the Brita that was just a jug with a handle. It eventually broke and after searching for a replacement my boyfriend and I decided to purchase the Ultramax. BEST DECISION EVER.
It holds so much more water than you’d think it would and instead of refilling it a tiny bit and then having to wait (like you do with the jug-model) the tank takes a ton of water and you only have to fill it up 3 times. It lasts a solid 3-4 days without a refill between two people (and we’re big water drinkers, so depending upon your consumption it could last even longer).
As for the timer on top – it really does help. Instead of just randomly remembering to put in a new filter, this is just an easy reminder.
Anyways, to anyone in search of a Brita, I highly recommend this model. It fits in a fridge, requires fewer refills than most models, and (most importantly) does a great job of cleaning your water.
Eh….
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
I purchased this product about 2 weeks ago in an effort to “Go Green” and eliminate my use of plastic water bottles. While this has done the trick, the downside is that the spigot began to leak within a couple of days. I returned it and now my second one is doing the same thing at a much faster rate. I wish I would have read these reviews before making the purchase…
What mold?
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I bought the very first version of this product. It seems like I’ve had it for a couple of decades. It started looking a bit shabby as the result of several moves. It had a few small cracks but still functioned perfectly. The new one looks a lot better in my new fridge.
I don’t understand the mold issue reported by other reviewers. The first one or two fills after installing a new filter may leave a bit of carbon dust in the water which could possibly settle to the bottom of the unit. Could this be what these people are seeing? Properly soak the filter before using, dump the first fill and there should be no problem.
Taste Comparison
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I bought this unit hoping to do away with purchasing heavy 5 gallon bottles and saving money.
The first thing I did after set-up was to do a taste comparison: Purified bottled water vs tap water vs Brita filtered. The tap water, as usual, tasted bad – we could only take a sip. But, to my surprise, the Brita filtered water taste was superior to the purified bottle water. The bottled water actually tasted ‘stale’ by comparison.
The transition from bottled water was painless for the family. I now have better tasting water at a fraction of the cost… and with no heavy lifting!
I would highly recommend this product for all family kitchens.
brita ultramax water dispenser
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I owned brita ultramax dispenser for couple years. I noticed mold every once a while found in mostly the faucet and sometimes in the plastic top cover. The mold color is pink and if I did nothing to clean it, it will eventually become black mold/brown.
Never noticed any mold inside the dispenser itself. I always fill up the water in full and never let it empty no more than 1 day.
My suggestion is to check the underneath of the faucet every once a week. The best way it to put paper towel inside the faucet and see if you see any sign of pink mold. Sometimes the mold can’t be visibly seen.
I usually clean everything at the same time as filter replacement; probably every 3 months.
To be safe, you can clean it once a month. Just remember don’t let your dispenser empty for longer than a day.
Leaks
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I bought this unit and it worked great for a week or so and now it leaks at the water dispenser fitting. I tried to tighten the fitting but it still leaks. So if you want water all over your refrigerator or your counter tops buy this! Not sure if I kept the box so I may be stuck with this, really sucks.
My views on the Ultra Max
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
This is an excellant water filter. All Brita products perform outstanding.
There are 2 drawbacks to this item.
1) The “meter” on it automatically counts down letting you know when to change the filter. It assumes you drink the suggested amount of water daily. So if you don’t the meter expires before the filter does.
2) It is sort of bulky to fill up in the sink. For my personal use I probably should have bought the pitcher unit. This unit is fine, I just hate taking it out of the fridge to fill up.
All in all not a bad unit. It performs excellant, it’s just the features that are the drawbacks.
Great Water How it Should Be; Effortless.
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I have the version without the fancy timer in the lid. I simply replace the filter every couple months. I’ve been using this product for over a year now and I can report no problems what-so-ever. The best part is that I never have to think about it. I can fill up my Sigg Bottle or Klean Kanteen with great water and that’s all I ask of the device. Now that I realize how primitive and wasteful the consumption of bottled water is, I won’t go back! When the times comes to replace the product, I will purchase another brita filtering device.
Love it!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Absolutely love this! It provides the high volume of cold, filtered water that we need without multiple fillups per day!
The best for your buck
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
This is the best filter I have found – and I’ve searched high and low! I tried some other brands of filter pitchers but they leave little pieces of what’s in the filter in your water for the entire life of the filter. NOT BRITA! The filters in these leave nothing in your water but pure, clear, watery goodness! I’ve also tried built in water filtration systems but they seem to leave behind an odd taste in the water, not to mention they are quite costly! My brita tastes like bottled water. Also I love the size of this unit because I drink a lot of water and I don’t have to fill it every two seconds.Despite the larger size, this unit is very easy to fill. It’s small enough to fit down in the sink so you can just fill it from the tap and put it back in the fridge. I bought the filter for good reuseable bottles and this unit – it’s the perfect combination – I fill up my brita, then fill my 6 filter for good bottles, throw everything in the fridge – and I’m ready for the grab and go frenzy! I would highly recommend this product – my entire family will be purchasing!

BRITA ULTRAMAX DISPENSER
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
My wife and I bought the product so we wouldn’t have to buy a disposable dispenser from the market
every week. The Brita dispenser filters our tap water so that it has no chemical taste. Ice cubes also
have no undertaste as they did before. We preferred the Ultramax dispenser to the pitcher since we were
used to a larger size. The filter and water reservoir are easy to use. A nice feature is the gauge on top that
reminds you when it’s time to replace the filter. I’m very happy with this product. It exceeded my expectations.
Had my Brita Ultramax dispensor for about 3 weeks and noticed it was starting to leak all over the top shelf of my fridge? It leaks so badly from where the spout meets the body that I have to keep paper towel beneath it… looks like there is an o ring problem?? Seen others with same problem for some time now… you would think Brita would have addressed this… quite dissapointed with my new purchase.
