Most people come across some form of mold in their lifetime, normally within their own home or the home of a loved one. Most people are aware that removing mold from the home is a high priority but many people just don’t know where to look for the spread of mold and how extensive contamination can be.

Basements are the normal locations that people find mold. The conditions in a basement are often humid, moisture in the air combined with heat. This provides the most ideal growing situation for black mold so naturally should be the first place to check if any mold is discovered.

Much moisture and dirt builds up on your floors, if you have gaps between the floor and the walls of your home this can cause a gathering where mold can thrive. This soon spreads under floorboards that can soon lead to a whole room being infested with mold.

This is very similar to what happens behind your walls behind the plasterboards and drywalls in your home. Often triggered by a leak the mold easily takes over whole sheets of these boards and festers out of view. An odor is normally present that seems to come from the walls acting as an alarm.

Black mold doesn’t always contaminate in walls and structures within your home it can have a nasty habit of reaching areas like furniture, draws and cabinets. These types of area are dark, often contain a small amount of moisture from clothing or food products kept within and supply lots of dirt containing all the nutrients mold needs to grow. The dangerous thing about this type of contamination is that the black mold can hide on the underside of the draws out of sight even when opened. If a nearby area has black mold be sure to check cabinets in great detail.

Any area that contains the slightest bit of moisture is at great risk of being overtaken by black mold. Bathrooms and kitchens are prime examples and small amount of mold can be regularly found in most homes. Mold build up of this time can be hard to spot as its often mistaken for bathroom slime which, unless you clean constantly you are bound to see sooner or later.

As you can see from these examples, black mold can appear anywhere so be vigilant in checking all areas if you have suffered any form of black mold infestation.
