Finally got around to changing the filter on the fridge as it has been the same since we bought it. Wife would only drink from this so i figured a new filter would be a good thing. Well was I wrong, it made our water taste disgusting and now the wife refuses to drink from it.

Can a filter be bad?

The PureSource2 came with my fridge and I am ever so happy it did. A full minute without any assitance or directions and I was back up and running. As an additional bonus, the filter seems to last quite a long while. I am not saying I would buy or not buy a new refrigerator because of this, but it would bear looking into.

The product was in perfect condition and exactly what I needed. However the shipping was slow. The turn around time for this to leave their location was slow. My ice maker and water was not working because my part had gone bad. If I would have known it was going to take so long I would have bought local. If you need it in a hurry I do not recommend.

This filter is great!! Once it is replaced, the water flows like Niagra Falls!! It is always great to have water that is chlorine and lead free. I am considering installing a whole house filter. Doing this may help extend the life of the filter in the refrigerator.

It appeared that a filter that I ordered was in an opened box and looked like it could have been used. But, I am not sure. It was installed and is “working”. I just hope it is not a used one. I already had one of them.

This is a great filter. The last filter lasted 5 years and I can’t tell difference from the old to the new one. Must be from the great water quality here in Oregon. Just push it into place and run a couple gallons of water threw it before you drink from it.

Frigidaire PureSource2 Refrigerator Water Filter (FC-100, WF2CB) This water filter for my Frigidaire refrigerator works just great. Water always tastes great… which basically means it is tasteless… and the filter is extremely simple to replace. Being able to order it on Amazon instead of searching around the local stores is definitely a plus. Good product, easy order, quick delivery… what more can you ask for?

Leaks Charcoal

Our Kenmore fridge made by Frigidaire and its original filter worked great. When we replaced it with the Frigidaire Brand PureSource2, it never stopped leaving charcoal in the water. We’ve had it for over a month now, and it still leaves charcoal in the water. Buyer beware!

I am a single person, and I don’t use the refrigerator tap water, only the ice maker. I purchased a filter in August, and the thing is already leaking. So I call the manufacturer, and they basically said to go through the store and that there is no warranty on the filter. You know these are cash cows for the appliance manufacturers like the ink cartridges are for the printer manufacturers. I wish there was a refrigerator out there you did not need a built-in water filter for.

Simply a great filter

We love this filtration system. Our fridge uses this with ice and water in the door. This is the easiest system we have ever used. You simply press a button, the old filter comes out and you slide the new one into place. Voila! It comes with date stickers so you can make a note when to install a new one. We’ve had this system for about 3 years and my family drinks lots of clean, filtered water that tastes good. Great price!

One note: If you don’t replace the filter every 6 months or so, the filter will start to leak (but stops when you put a new cartridge in). Yes, we found this out the hard way

I had been paying almost $60.00 for the same Filter through a large national chain that sold me the refrigerator initially. We recently had some preventive warranty service done and the technician had recommended another filter as one of their add on sales. I declined and went straight to Amazon to see if there were any other options. I could not believe the difference in pricing (almost half the cost)and even though I was skeptical, I ordered and was pleasently surprised! The filter shipped quickly and was brand new. I have inserted the filter and have experienced no issues and will purchase through Amazon from now on.

My Fridge of 2 years uses this PureSource2 filter and I must say that I am impressed with the taste of the water and the ability to trap impurities in the water itself. When it came time to replace the filter, I wanted to go with the genuine Frigidaire brand rather than chance an inferior imitation. When I removed the old filter ( which is very easy ) I was shocked to see all the ‘stuff’ it had trapped that I would have otherwise drank. The side panel on the box reads:

*Reduces Cysts by 99.99%

*Reduces Particulates by 99.10%

*Reduces Turbidity by 97.80%

*Reduces Aesthetic Chlorine by 97.40%

*Reduces Lead by 99.30%

*Reduces Mercury by 96.60%

*Reduces Herbicides 2, 4-D by 99.90%, Alachlor by 97.30%, and Atrazine by 94.60%

The rated capacity is 6-9 months, or 400 gallons – whichever comes first to enjoy optimal performance. However, I use them much longer mostly in an effort to save a few bucks. As the particles build up over time in the filter, the water output will begin to come out slower from the Fridge water tap – This is a good indication for me that it’s time to replace the filter. There are little labels that are supplied with the filter so you know when to change it if you don’t happen to have a filter status light on your Fridge model.. My label says I was supposed to change it in June and it’s now September and I can see that the water is coming out much slower. Impatient to stand there for 10 seconds to fill a glass of water I finally replaced it today.

Clean tasting water and ice

I purchased two filters and received them within one week of ordering. It seemed that I had to run water through the filter much longer than the recommended three minutes, but since then haven’t had problems with water quality. The water and ice have no taste and we haven’t been purchasing as much bottled water. The filter seems to really work because the old filter was cloudy and had a lot of sediment in it…all the stuff we shouldn’t be drinking. I’ll definitely continue buying these from the same vendor.

Charcoal residue never stops

I purchased one of these filters from a local big box store. No matter how long I ran it, it never cleared the charcoal dust. The instructions say this dust is normal and will clear after you run the water for for 10 minutes. While I ran it a lot longer then that and did so repeatedly over the next few weeks. After about a month, I decided I had gotten a defective unit so I got another one, this time ordered here on line. Same problem! I’ve owned this refrigerator for almost 4 years and have changed this same filter 7 times already and never had this problem before. Since I’ve apparently gotten two defectives in a row from two totally different sources, I can only surmise that there is a bad batch somewhere from the factory that went out to all the distributors. I’m now considering buying one of the bypass units available as replacements for these filters. My tap water is fine. The refrigerator with this filter came with the house. Not sure why the previous owners thought the water needed extra filtering. I just want water and ice without all the little black dust specs from the charcoal!!!

Beware if you need a replacement! Hold off until the bad batch gets recalled or something.

Water pressure dropped to almost nothing

Has anyone had a problem with the water pressure in these filters? I’m not sure if it’s a normal effect for the water pressure to diminish as the filter gets used more, but our filter is almost six months old and the water pressure recently dropped to almost nothing. We can’t even use it. The built-in filter monitor shows a green light still. So I don’t know what’s up.

Our fridge came with our condo. The water dispenser in the door was painfully slow. Turns out the filter had been in for over five years. A quick search later and I found a replacement on Amazon. This fixed the flow problem and I assume it is cleaning the water going into the ice machine and water dispenser properly.

These filters are a little smaller than the previous ones I ordered (probably a different manufacturer or maybe using less plastic to be environmentally friendly) but nonetheless fit and work well. Remember to run the water through the system for several minutes after installation to ensure proper filtration (and to get loose fibers from the filter out)!

our fridge broke while were were out of town and the water was gross, then we replaced the filter (while doing the whole baking soda routine), and everything is better – the new filter made the water better than EVER!

Faulty design

These filter housings ALWAYS leak after a few months. This is a design issue related to the Pure Source 2 design, not Amazon or its vendors.

Our water pressure is not too high at 60 PSI. The plactic housings would eventually get a hairline crack with the older cast plastic type of filter. The new filters are made of tubular plastic stock but they eventually leak where they are glued to the O-ring end of the filter.

I have had my floor soaked several times with this faulty design.
